Why Common Ground?
I’ve worked in the field of adult education as a classroom instructor and a teacher trainer since 2003. I’ve trained educators across Minnesota and the U.S. to effectively teach adult English language learners, with a focus on literacy-level and multilevel classrooms. My teaching and training work centers on culturally responsive, trauma-informed, and inclusive instructional practices that help remove barriers to learning and promote equity in adult education. I design and lead professional development sessions that equip teachers with the tools to support diverse learners—many of whom have experienced interrupted education, trauma, or displacement. Through coaching, workshops, and curriculum support, I help teachers and programs implement learner-centered strategies that build literacy, language, and classroom community. My training approach blends research-based methodology with deep respect for learners' lived experiences, ensuring instruction is accessible, affirming, and transformative. Whether working with new instructors or experienced educators, my goal is always the same: to empower teachers to create healing-centered spaces where adult learners can thrive and build strong foundations for lifelong learning.
